Meet Raquel Tamez – A Leader in Diversity and Inclusion

Raquel Tamez is a prominent figure in diversity and inclusion, currently serving as the Chief Inclusion and Engagement Officer at Charles River Associates (CRA). Her role at CRA involves spearheading initiatives to enhance diversity, equity, and inclusion within the firm, fostering a culture that empowers employees and better serves clients and communities.

Before joining CRA, Tamez was the CEO of the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE), where she significantly expanded the organization’s programs, corporate partnerships, and membership base. Her leadership at SHPE was marked by a commitment to supporting Hispanic professionals in STEM fields, driven by her personal journey and dedication to justice and equality.

Tamez’s career also includes a notable tenure as Chief Legal Officer at SourceAmerica, where she advocated for employment opportunities for individuals with significant disabilities. Her extensive legal background includes roles at Mary Kay Inc., Affiliated Computer Services, and the U.S. Department of Labor.

Tamez since she was young was determined to become independent, and in what direction she wanted her life to go.

As young as 8 years old, I made up my mind that I was going to get my education, that I was going to be able to take care of myself. Instead, I was going to buy my own house, my own car, and pay my own bills, said Tamez. 

I’ve given it a lot of thought, and I have decided: Yes, I’m going to be that feisty Latina. I am going to fight and advocate for what’s right. It brings me back to why I decided to go to law school in the first place: justice, equality, and fairness—and just doing the right thing.

Tamez has held appointments on prominent committees such as the FCC’s Diversity in Tech working group and the National Academies’ Committee on Women in Science, Engineering, and Medicine. Tamez holds a bachelor’s degree in government, business and Spanish from the University of Texas at Austin and a J.D. St. Mary’s University School of Law, where she is also a board member.
